Why Website Design Isn’t “Just a Pretty Page” - A Behind-the-Scenes Look at Branding Consistency

When most people think about website design, they imagine picking a few colors, tweaking the layout, and maybe dropping in a logo or two. But what often goes unnoticed is the careful craftsmanship required to create true visual harmony- especially when it comes to showcasing third-party branding on a client’s website.

Recently, I highlighted just one small, essential part of this process in a video I shared: tailoring the logos of my client’s clients to achieve visual consistency across their website.

Here’s the example I used:

One of my client’s clients is none other than the House of Commons, UK. It’s an iconic institution with a recognizable logo that needed to fit seamlessly into the site.

To make this happen, I had to:

  • Source their logo online

  • Enhance its resolution to ensure it looked crisp and clear on the web

  • Adjust the color palette to align with the website’s aesthetic

  • Make the background transparent for smooth integration

  • Ensure the logo aligned perfectly with all the others featured on the page

Each one of these steps might seem small, but together they shape how the brand is perceived and how the site feels to the user.

For this type of work, I often turn to Photoshop for precision, but sometimes tools like Canva can be a quicker alternative depending on the task. Regardless of the tool, ensuring logos are polished, uniform, and cohesive guarantees that when someone scrolls through a client’s site, they experience something refined, trustworthy, and professional.

This kind of detail - invisible to most people -is a huge part of what makes quality design so effective. It’s not just about placing a logo on a page; it’s about creating balance, honouring brand integrity, and ensuring the design flows effortlessly.

It’s these little touches that make all the difference, elevating a website from functional to truly remarkable.
